Front Cover: Ideas and Inspiration

I really liked the simplicity of all 3 covers of these magazines. Simplicity is an element that I want to include in my magazine because it gives the magazine a high class and professional feel/ look. Another thing that contributes to that is the fact that there is a simple and organised layout, especially on “Blender” and “Billboard”, due to the fact that the fonts chosen are sharp and well defined with straight lines and are easily readable. The straight vertical and horizontal lines make the layout very pleasant to see and then emphasise the main image and the main cover line due to the larger font and bright image. The clear colour schemes are another element that I would like to include, as they are simple and perfectly compliment each other. “Metal Hammer” has a nice simple colour scheme of shades of grey, varying from white through to black. This nicely contrasts the vibrant red detailing on the cover so I think that the idea of having a monochromatic scheme with one vibrant colour may be an idea to consider when constructing my magazine. I also like the aspect of having all of the cover lines on one side of the page so that there is a lot of the readers focus drawn to the main image which I think should be the main focus point of a magazine’s front cover as it should attract the reader to buy the magazine. I liked the attitude that was presented in the main image of “Blender” and the aggression from “Metal Hammer” and hope to incorporate that somehow as I feel it will make my magazine more edgy and therefore would hold the attention of possible readers when lined up on the shelf next to other magazines.
