The top image is of the Solo artist Ke$ha, the person that I was trying to portray in my image on the bottom. I wanted to try and portray her as she is an artist that would appeal to my target audience of the mainstream population of students between the ages of 16 and 25 because she is a pop/dance artist who is currently in the charts and has had several top 10 hits. I tried to portray this image as much as possible by making sure that the photographs were similar, but had variations in it in order so it didn’t seem like plagiarism. Both of the shots are close shots taken from an angle that hits the model straight on so this makes them similar as well as the lighting is the same as it hits the models face straight on, and the flash from each image reflects off both the models skin to give it a porcelain effect. Although their facial expressions and gestures are different, they both look directly in to the camera and their hands/arms are also featured in the close up. I also tried to make them look alike so I chose my model (Jennifer Ives) because she had bleached blonde hair and had a similar face shape to that of Ke$ha. This then made it easier for me to style her by backcombing her hair to make it look messy (like the original) and then putting heavy dark grey/black eye makeup on her to make her eyes stand out and look rebellious. There is a slight undercurrent of aggression and attitude in the original photograph of Ke$ha which I wanted to highlight and emphasise when it came to taking my front cover image. This attitude would appeal to my target audience of young people (students) as this would be something that they could relate to and especially if they came from a middle class background as it is intended. This image represents mainstream rebellion so I would expect that the people that read my magazine would be in education (college or university) and would be from the Social Class of ABC1 and would have had a middle class upbringing. The distribution of males and females that would buy my magazine would be approximately 65% females and 35% males, the majority of these being of white ethnicity. However, my magazine is quite a general one as the music genres that it covers are pop, dance with a little bit of techno and due to the pricing of only £2.90 a month, the magazine would be accessible to all people interested in the genres of music and that could afford to buy it.
