I believe that a publishing company such as IPC Media may publish my magazine because although they already publish 2 other music magazines, the genre of each of these magazines are not the same as the genre of my magazine, and also the specific audience of my magazine is not targeted. The 2 music magazines currently published by IPC Media are NME magazine and Uncut magazine, both of which are targeted at a mainly male population. NME has the genre of Indie/Rock and Uncut’s genre of choice is Rock – “both new and old, cult and classic”* whereas my magazine is targeted mainly at Mainstream females with a genre of Pop/Dance/Techno. Another element is the age of the target audiences for both of these magazines. For example, NME is targeted at an audience slightly older than my intended market, with the average age of their readers being 25 years old and I would expect the average age of my readers to be approximately 18/19 years old.
IPC Media is a huge publishing company owned by Time Warner, which are a multi- billion dollar company who also own big brands such as AOL, Disney and Warner Bros. Because this company has so much money, they would be able to support my magazine when it started out, as usually when a magazine starts becoming established, they usually make a loss, so IPC would be able to support the magazine financially until it “decibel” became an established brand. However due to the size and power of these companies, they may demand more editorial rights than say if I went to a smaller publishing company.
Because the genre of music covered by my magazine is so popular, I would expect it to be sold in places such as supermarkets, news agents and bookstores etc. as my target population of students would often go there due for the need of books, food and other essentials they would need for “student life”
